Claude-Yves Charron
A former Canadian diplomat based in Beijing and UN diplomat in post-conflict social reconstruction based in Geneva, Dr. Charron is currently Vice-rector, Université du Québec à Montréal, Secretary General, Network of UNESCO Chairs in Communications ORBICOM, member of the International Development Research Centre’s Board of Governors and of the UN Global Alliance of Information and Communication Technologies for Development. After his Post Doctoral Studies in International Communication in McGill in 1978, he completed graduate studies in International Public Administration at ENAP and served as advisor to the President of Treasury Board Canada for the implementation of the Government-on-Line Initiative. He has conducted 7 fieldworks in the Canadian Central Arctic, 13 in Africa and 73 in the Asia-Pacific. He has received and managed over 1.9 million dollars in research funds, and 84 Master and Ph.D. students have completed their thesis under his supervision. He served as a member of the organizing committee of the UN Summits on the Information Society (Geneva, 2003 and Tunis, 2005) and of other international initiatives. |
